Description
DAPAFLO M 5/500MG is a fixed-dose combination oral medication containing 5mg of Dapagliflozin and 500mg of Metformin Hydrochloride. This dual-action treatment targets multiple pathways involved in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, leveraging Dapagliflozin (an SGLT2 inhibitor) to increase glucose excretion in the urine and Metformin (a biguanide) to reduce hepatic glucose production and improve insulin sensitivity. This synergistic effect leads to more comprehensive blood sugar control.
Primarily indicated for adults with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, DAPAFLO M 5/500MG is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control. Beyond diabetes management, it offers significant benefits in reducing the risk of hospitalization for heart failure and progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in eligible patients. As a prescription-only medication, it is typically taken once daily with food. Key potential side effects include genitourinary infections (from Dapagliflozin) and gastrointestinal issues or, rarely, lactic acidosis (from Metformin). Strict medical supervision and patient education on recognizing serious side effects are crucial.
