DAMPHOS (CLINDAMYCIN & CLOTRIMAZOLE) 7`S is a specialized vaginal medication designed for the effective treatment of mixed vaginal infections, typically presented as a pack of 7 vaginal pessaries. This dual-action formulation combines Clindamycin (an antibiotic, usually 100mg) and Clotrimazole (an antifungal, usually 100mg or 200mg) to provide comprehensive treatment. Clindamycin targets bacterial overgrowth responsible for conditions like bacterial vaginosis, while Clotrimazole combats yeast infections caused by Candida species.
This potent combination makes DAMPHOS ideal for managing symptoms such as abnormal vaginal discharge, itching, burning, and odor when both bacterial and fungal components are suspected. It is administered intravaginally, usually once daily at bedtime, for a full 7-day course to ensure complete eradication of the infection and prevent recurrence. As a prescription-only medication, it should be used under medical supervision. Patients should be aware of potential local irritation and the rare, but serious, risk of Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD) due to clindamycin absorption.
