CONAZ/KETOZIRAL 200mg Tablets contain Ketoconazole 200mg, an oral broad-spectrum antifungal medication. This powerful azole antifungal works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes, thereby disrupting fungal growth and ultimately leading to their death. Due to potential serious side effects, particularly liver toxicity (hepatotoxicity) and significant drug interactions, oral Ketoconazole 200mg tablets are generally reserved for the treatment of serious systemic fungal infections such as blastomycosis, coccidioidomycosis, histoplasmosis, chromomycosis, and paracoccidioidomycosis, or when other antifungal therapies have failed or are not tolerated. It is not indicated for the treatment of fungal infections of the skin or nails where topical treatments or other less toxic oral antifungals are available. This is a prescription-only medication, and patients taking it require close monitoring of liver function and potential drug interactions by a healthcare professional.
