Colestyramine 4g Sugar-Free Sachets (50’s) contain a potent dose of Colestyramine 4 grams per sachet, a highly effective bile acid sequestrant. This medication is primarily used to lower high levels of cholesterol (specifically LDL-C, often referred to as “bad” cholesterol) in the blood, helping to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases when diet and lifestyle changes are insufficient. Colestyramine works by binding to bile acids in the digestive system, preventing their reabsorption and leading to their excretion from the body. This forces the liver to use more cholesterol to produce new bile acids, thereby lowering blood cholesterol levels. Additionally, it is used for the relief of severe itching (pruritus) associated with partial biliary obstruction and for managing certain types of diarrhea caused by bile acid malabsorption.
