Description

Betmiga 50mg Tablets are a prescription medication containing Mirabegron 50mg, formulated as a prolonged-release tablet. This advanced formulation ensures that the medication is released slowly and consistently into the body over 24 hours, allowing for effective symptom control with just one tablet taken daily. Betmiga is a selective beta-3 adrenergic receptor agonist, a newer class of medication for bladder conditions.

Mirabegron primarily works by:

  • Relaxing Bladder Muscles: It activates beta-3 receptors found in the bladder muscle cells, causing the detrusor muscle (the muscle responsible for bladder contractions) to relax.
  • Increasing Bladder Capacity: By relaxing the bladder muscle, Betmiga helps the bladder hold more urine, reducing the urge to urinate.
  • Reducing Contractions: It decreases the frequency of involuntary bladder contractions, which are a hallmark of overactive bladder syndrome.

Betmiga 50mg is specifically used for the symptomatic treatment of overactive bladder (OAB) syndrome in adults. The common symptoms of OAB include:

  • Urgency: A sudden and strong urge to urinate that is difficult to defer.
  • Increased Urinary Frequency: Needing to urinate more often than usual.
  • Urgency Incontinence: Involuntary leakage of urine associated with a sudden urge to urinate.

By controlling these symptoms, Betmiga helps improve bladder control and significantly enhances the quality of life for individuals suffering from OAB. It can be taken with or without food.

Important Considerations:

  • Prescription Only: Betmiga 50mg is a prescription-only medication (POM) and requires a doctor’s diagnosis and ongoing supervision.
  • Prolonged-Release: The tablets should be swallowed whole with water and not crushed, chewed, or divided, as this would compromise the prolonged-release mechanism.
  • Blood Pressure Monitoring: Mirabegron can cause an increase in blood pressure. Your doctor will likely monitor your blood pressure regularly while you are on this medication, especially if you have a history of hypertension.
  • Contraindications: It should not be used in individuals with severe uncontrolled high blood pressure (e.g., systolic 180 mmHg and/or diastolic 110 mmHg).
  • Side Effects: Common side effects include high blood pressure, headache, urinary tract infection, and tachycardia (rapid heartbeat).
  • Kidney and Liver Impairment: Dosage adjustments may be necessary in patients with reduced kidney or liver function, and it may be contraindicated in severe cases.
