BEMPETOL EZ Tablets provide a dual-action approach to significantly lower elevated cholesterol levels, particularly low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), often called “bad cholesterol.” Each tablet contains:
- Bempedoic Acid 180mg: This novel agent works by inhibiting ATP citrate lyase (ACL), an enzyme in the liver crucial for cholesterol synthesis. By blocking ACL, it reduces the production of cholesterol.
- Ezetimibe 10mg: This ingredient acts differently by inhibiting the absorption of cholesterol from the small intestine. It specifically targets the Niemann-Pick C1-Like 1 (NPC1L1) protein, preventing dietary and biliary cholesterol from entering the bloodstream.
By combining these two mechanisms, BEMPETOL EZ offers a powerful synergistic effect to reduce both cholesterol production in the liver and cholesterol absorption from the gut. This makes it an effective option for patients who require additional LDL-C lowering, especially those who cannot reach their target levels with statins alone, or those who are statin-intolerant.
BEMPETOL EZ 180mg/10mg is primarily prescribed as an adjunct to diet and other lipid-lowering therapies for:
- Primary hyperlipidemia (high blood cholesterol), including heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH).
- To lower the risk of major cardiovascular events (such as heart attack and coronary revascularization) in patients with established cardiovascular disease or those at high risk for a cardiovascular event.
This medication helps patients achieve their cholesterol goals, contributing to a reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases. It is typically taken orally once daily, with or without food.
