AZZIR 400mg Tablets contain Aciclovir (Acyclovir) 400mg, a powerful antiviral medication. Aciclovir works by inhibiting the replication of herpes viruses by interfering with their DNA synthesis. This helps to reduce the severity and duration of viral outbreaks and can also help in preventing recurrent infections. AZZIR 400mg is primarily prescribed for the treatment of various infections caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV), including:
- Genital herpes: both initial and recurrent episodes, as well as for suppression (prevention of recurrences).
- Cold sores (herpes labialis).
- Herpes zoster (shingles): reducing pain and speeding healing of lesions.
- Varicella (chickenpox): especially in certain patient populations. It is crucial to start treatment with Aciclovir as early as possible after the onset of symptoms for maximum effectiveness. While Aciclovir helps manage the symptoms and frequency of outbreaks, it does not cure herpes infections, as the virus remains dormant in the body.
