Description
ASA 75mg Tablets contain 75mg of Acetylsalicylic Acid (ASA), commonly known as Aspirin. Unlike higher doses of aspirin used for pain and fever, the 75mg strength is a low-dose Aspirin specifically formulated for its antiplatelet (blood-thinning) effects. It works by irreversibly inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) in platelets, which in turn prevents the formation of thromboxane A2. Thromboxane A2 is a potent stimulator of platelet aggregation and vasoconstriction, meaning Aspirin at this low dose makes platelets less “sticky” and reduces their ability to form blood clots.
ASA 75mg is widely prescribed for cardiovascular prevention and is a cornerstone in managing conditions where blood clot formation poses a significant risk.
Primary Uses/Indications:
- Secondary Prevention of Cardiovascular Events: Used in individuals who have already experienced a heart attack (myocardial infarction), stroke (ischemic stroke), or transient ischemic attack (TIA) to prevent recurrence.
- Prevention of Cardiovascular Events in High-Risk Individuals: Prescribed to patients with a high risk of developing heart disease or stroke, such as those with stable angina, peripheral artery disease, or certain other cardiovascular risk factors, as determined by a doctor.
- After Certain Cardiovascular Procedures: Used following procedures like angioplasty or coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery to prevent clot formation in stents or grafts.
Important Note: This low dose of Aspirin is generally not used for pain relief, fever reduction, or inflammation in the same way higher doses of Aspirin or other NSAIDs are. Its primary role is in cardiovascular protection.
