It is manufactured by Bristol-Myers Squibb (original brand) or various generic manufacturers. This potent medication is used to treat serious conditions such as Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML), Head and Neck Cancer, and to manage Sickle Cell Anemia by reducing painful crises and transfusion needs. It is also used for Polycythemia Vera and Essential Thrombocythemia. Hydrea works by inhibiting DNA synthesis to control abnormal cell growth.
