Benylin with Codeine Syrup 100ml is a strong oral liquid medication indicated for the symptomatic relief of severe, dry, irritating, and unproductive coughs. This syrup contains a combination of active ingredients that work to suppress the cough reflex and alleviate associated symptoms:
- Codeine Phosphate (10mg/5ml): This is an opioid analgesic and antitussive. It acts on the central nervous system to directly suppress the cough reflex, making it highly effective for persistent coughs that are not relieved by other medications. Codeine also offers mild pain relief.
- Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride (12.5mg/5ml): A first-generation antihistamine with additional cough-suppressing and sedative properties. It helps to relieve allergic symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes, and its sedative effect can be beneficial for reducing nighttime coughs and aiding sleep.
- Ammonium Chloride (125mg/5ml): A traditional expectorant that helps to loosen and thin bronchial secretions, making it easier to clear any minor mucus that may be present, though the primary action is antitussive.
- Levomenthol (Menthol): Provides a soothing, cooling sensation to the irritated throat, offering immediate comfort.
