Description

Beeclav 228mg/5ml Oral Suspension 70ml is a broad-spectrum antibiotic medication specifically formulated for pediatric use. It contains a synergistic combination of Amoxicillin 200mg and Clavulanic Acid 28.5mg per 5ml of reconstituted suspension.

  • Amoxicillin is a penicillin-class antibiotic that works by interfering with the formation of the bacterial cell wall, leading to the death of the bacteria.
  • Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Many bacteria produce beta-lactamase enzymes that can destroy Amoxicillin, rendering it ineffective. Clavulanic Acid protects Amoxicillin from this enzymatic breakdown, thereby extending its antibacterial spectrum to include resistant strains that produce these enzymes.

Beeclav 228mg/5ml suspension is primarily prescribed for the treatment of various bacterial infections in infants and children (typically for those where the 200mg/28.5mg per 5ml concentration is appropriate based on weight and severity). Common indications include:

  • Upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs): Such as recurrent tonsillitis, sinusitis, and otitis media (ear infections).
  • Lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs): Including community-acquired pneumonia and bronchitis.
  • Skin and soft tissue infections: Such as cellulitis, impetigo, and animal bites.
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs).
  • Bone and joint infections.

This medication is supplied as a dry powder that needs to be reconstituted with water before use to form an oral suspension. It should be shaken well before each dose and taken with a meal to minimize potential gastrointestinal intolerance and optimize absorption. The reconstituted suspension typically needs to be stored in a refrigerator and discarded after a specific period (e.g., 7-10 days). It is a prescription-only medication and should be used strictly as directed by a healthcare professional, completing the full course of treatment to ensure complete eradication of the infection and prevent antibiotic resistance.
