Beclomin Ointment is a topical dermatological preparation that combines two active pharmaceutical ingredients: Beclometasone Dipropionate 0.025% w/w and Miconazole Nitrate 2.0% w/w. This dual-action ointment is specifically designed to treat inflamed skin conditions that are complicated by, or at risk of, fungal infections.
- Beclometasone Dipropionate is a potent corticosteroid that works by reducing inflammation, redness, itching, and swelling by inhibiting the release of chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that cause these symptoms in the skin.
- Miconazole Nitrate is a broad-spectrum antifungal agent that stops the growth of various fungi, including dermatophytes and yeasts (like Candida species), by preventing them from forming their protective cell membranes.
Beclomin Ointment is commonly prescribed for conditions such as:
- Inflamed fungal skin infections like ringworm (tinea corporis), athlete’s foot (tinea pedis), and jock itch (tinea cruris) where inflammation is a prominent feature.
- Infected eczema or dermatitis where a fungal component is present or suspected. The ointment base provides a moisturizing effect and ensures prolonged contact with the skin, enhancing the delivery of the active ingredients. It should be applied sparingly to the affected area, usually once or twice daily, as directed by a healthcare professional. Due to the corticosteroid component, prolonged use, especially on the face or in skin folds, should be avoided unless specifically advised by a doctor.
