Description
BACTROBEL Ointment 15g contains Mupirocin 2% w/w, a powerful topical antibiotic. Mupirocin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, effectively stopping the growth and replication of susceptible bacteria on the skin. It is particularly active against a wide range of bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus (including methicillin-resistant S. aureus – MRSA) and various Streptococci, which are common culprits behind skin infections.
BACTROBEL Ointment is primarily prescribed for the treatment of various bacterial skin infections, such as:
- Impetigo: A highly contagious superficial skin infection characterized by red sores or blisters that quickly rupture and ooze, forming honey-colored crusts.
- Folliculitis: Inflammation of hair follicles, often appearing as small red bumps or pus-filled pimples.
- Furunculosis (boils): Painful, pus-filled lumps that form under the skin due to infected hair follicles. It is applied directly to the affected skin area to clear the infection, reduce inflammation, and promote healing. It is crucial to complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by a doctor, even if symptoms improve, to prevent recurrence and antibiotic resistance. The ointment is for external use only and should not be used in the eyes, nose, or mouth.
