Description
Bactopic Ointment 15g contains Mupirocin 2% w/w, a powerful topical antibiotic designed to treat bacterial skin infections. Mupirocin works by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial proteins, effectively preventing the growth and replication of susceptible bacteria on the skin. It is particularly effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria commonly responsible for skin infections, including Staphylococcus aureus (including methicillin-resistant S. aureus – MRSA) and various Streptococci species.
Bactopic Ointment is primarily prescribed for the treatment of various bacterial skin infections, such as:
- Impetigo: A highly contagious superficial skin infection often characterized by red sores or blisters that rupture and form honey-colored crusts.
- Folliculitis: Inflammation of hair follicles, presenting as small red bumps or pus-filled pimples.
- Furunculosis (boils): Painful, pus-filled lumps that develop under the skin due to infected hair follicles.
The ointment is applied directly to the affected skin area to clear the infection, reduce associated inflammation, and promote healing. It is crucial to complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by a healthcare professional, even if symptoms improve, to prevent recurrence and the development of antibiotic resistance.
